There are several methods to pair pigeons. The most widely used is the selective pairing, in which the breeder chooses according to flight achievement which male pairs with which female. But there also exists for example the so-called natural pairing and that one goes like this: assuming there are 10 boxes in the pigeonry. 10 males and 10 females are being put inside the pigeonry and the rest is left to nature. I know a breeder who has already bred successfully with this method for many years. There are breeders who pair their pigeons in December but separate them again one week later. In spring the pairs then already know each other and there is no delay with the brood. There are breeders who already have young in early January. Therefore they already have fully grown pigeons at the first young Tippler flying competitions, which of course achieve other accomplishments than not fully grown Tipplers. I personally breed in a way that the young hatch in late March or early April. The young pigeons grow better during the warm season and by the way it also relates to nature. Most of the time the pairs also accept each other quite well with the selective pairing. But there are also always pigeon pairs who donīt like each other. Then thereīs only one solution: a change of partner. If you happen to not have a fitting partner at that time thereīs the possibility to fly with them and pair them the following year with another partner.
